Outreach

Our group is very active in outreach activities 🎙️. We have a strong commitment to bring astronomy to the general public, and we are always looking for new ways to do so. We encourage you to contact us if you have an idea for a new outreach activity, or if you want to collaborate with us in one of our current projects.

Día del patrimonio 2025. This past día del patrimonio (open doors to all public buildings in Chile; May 25, 2025) we were at the National Astronomical Observatory (Cerro Calán), Department of Astronomy at the Universidad de Chile. Here, our AstroLab team, together with the Center for Astrophysics and Associated Technologies (CATA), showcased to the general public the various hardware developments we have worked on over the past two years. These works include developments in radio frequencies for the Canadian-Chilean array for radio transient studies (CHARTS) project, as well as our latest fieldwork at Gemini South (installing and observing with the Italian quantum eye; IQUEYE). CHARTS components include radio frequency amplification components, filters, and multiplexers, which are fundamental for efficiently detecting transient radio sources (e.g., fast radio bursts). In the case of IQUEYE, our team presented the installation process and astronomical observations that took place this past February in Gemini South.

Contact information

If you're an undegraduate or graduate student in the related fields of astronomy, physics or engineering; send us an email 📧. We work in a variety of projects, from instrument building, data analysis, and scientific interpretation of our observations. We strongly believe in a multidiciplinary approach to astronomy, from understanding the instrument, data, and the astrophysical meaning of our results.
